World Jewry to Be Represented at Requiem Mass for Pope John Today

A delegation representing world Jewry arrived here today to take part in the requiem mass tomorrow which will formally conclude the nine-day mourning period for the late Pope John XXIII. Also taking part in the rites will be Maurice Fisher, Israel’s Ambassador to Italy, and Shmuel Tsur, the Israeli Ambassador to Switzerland.

Included in the delegation representing world Jewry are Dr. Gerhard Riegner, director of coordination of the World Jewish Congress; Dr. Segio Piperno, president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities and a member of the executive of the World Jewish Congress; Dr. Paul Jacob, president of the European B’nai B’rith; Dr. Irnst Ludwig Ehrlich, European director of B’nai B’rith; and Fritz Becker, permanent representative in Rome of the WJC.

“This is the first time in history that a delegation of World Jewry is taking part in a funeral rite of a Pope,” Dr. Riegner declared on his arrival here.
