Histadrut ‘medal of Honor’ Presented to Top Negro U.S. Official

Attorney General Edward W. Brooke, highest ranking elected Negro official in the United States, was honored last night by a thousand civic, political and business leaders at a banquet tendered by the Greater Boston Histadrut Committee. Dr. Sol Stein, executive director of the National Committee for Labor Israel, presented to Mr. Brooke a special “Medal of Honor” in recognition of his outstanding leadership in the struggle for Negro rights in this country and his support of the cause of Israel.

In accepting the medal, Mr. Brooke hailed the role of Histadrut as a democratic force that shaped the destiny of Israel and had a universal appeal to all liberty-loving man kind. Israel Consul General Michael Arnon brought the greetings of the government of Israel. He stressed the significance of vocational training in his country’s efforts to close the gap between the diverse elements in its population and in strengthening the economic foundations of Israel.
