The Suez Canal probably will not be open for 10 or 15 years because “Egypt is not strong enough in the world of Arab emotionalism to make a separate settlement with Israel. ” That’s what Rep. Edward J. Derwinski. (R.Dh) told the Near East Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on the implications of the reopening of the Suez Canal yesterday. He said that the Arabs cannot agree on a total package and no one leader is strong enough to take independent action.
