Kibbutz Yahel in the Arava district, the first Reform kibbutz in Israel, will receive its first settlers this week. The Jewish National Fund has completed extensive work on the land infrastructure including the preparation of 5125 acres for agriculture. It has also diverted a nearby river to protect the settlement and its fields from winter floods. The JNF also plans to plant five acres of grove to protect cultivated lands from the encroachment of sand and dust.
