Vandals have smeared swastikas in a section of Amsterdam north of the harbor where few Jews live. According to the authorities, the Nazi symbols are not aimed at Jews but are a protest against plans to provide housing in the neighborhood for Gypsies who have been living in a temporary camp for the past five years.
