Border Policeman Wards off Knife Attack by Arab Woman

Download PDF for this date

An Israeli border policeman warded off a knife attack by an Arab woman near the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem Sunday. The assailant, who was not immediately identified, was taken into custody.

According to police sources, Inspector Eitan Levy, 27, was on patrol duty near the Damascus Gate entrance to the Old City when a woman approached and ordered “hands up and drop your rifle.” Levy knocked a large kitchen knife from her hand and subdued the woman with the help of another policeman.

Police are checking whether the assailant, who has a record of previous arrests, was on a terrorist mission or is mentally unbalanced.
