President Clinton removed Lebanon and Syria from the U.S. list of major drugproducing and drug-transit countries. Clinton’s action, which has drawn outrage from members of Congress as well as Jewish organizations, lifts the only remaining sanctions on Lebanon. Syria remains subject to a panoply of U.S. sanctions because it remains on the U.S. list of terrorist nations.
