Holocaust restitution and the role of Israel in forming a new European Jewish identity were among the issues discussed over the weekend at the first General Assembly of the European Council of Jewish Communities. Nearly 600 Jewish community leaders and representatives from 39 European countries met at the meeting in the French resort town of Nice.
