President Clinton hosted a reception evening for Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa and other members of the Israeli and Syrian negotiating teams meeting in West Virginia. After differing on which issues to discuss first — Israel wanted to discuss normalizing relations and security arrangements, while Syria wanted to discuss an Israeli withdrawal from the Golan Heights — the two sides have agreed to discuss the issues simultaneously in various committees.
