Leading American and Israeli feminists were to be honored in a Knesset ceremony Wednesday as part of an American Jewish Congress gathering under way in Israel.

"Dialogue 2000: Woman as Jew, Jew as Woman: Taking Stock at the Millennium," is the topic of the 35th annual America-Israel dialogue, sponsored by the AJCongress. American women being honored include author Betty Friedan, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, former congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman and author Letty Cottin Pogrebin.

An award was also slated to be given in memoriam to former congresswoman Bella Abzug.

During the weeklong dialogue, American and Israeli women are examining the status of Jewish women and plotting a course for the future though sessions on areas such as politics, social responsibility, health and religion.

A morning service was scheduled for Thursday morning with the group known as Women of the Wall, which promotes women’s equal access, including the right to conduct full prayer services, at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
