The Orthodox Union called on the Senate Finance Committee to remove the so- called marriage penalty from the U.S. tax code. The penalty, which imposes a higher tax on a married couple than they would pay if filing as singles, is “unacceptable in an era where America’s public policies must do all they can to encourage traditional marriage and family life,” the group said.
