Some senior commanders in the Israeli army reportedly back implementing the Israeli troop withdrawal from southern Lebanon immediately, instead of waiting until a July deadline set by Prime Minister Ehud Barak. Israeli newspapers reported that the officers support the move because of stepped-up activities by Hezbollah gunmen.
