A Russian Jewish conscientious objector was sentenced to one year in prison for his refusal to serve in Russia’s war in Chechnya, according to the Union of Councils for Soviet Jewry. But the Russian judge who sentenced Dmitry Neverovsky then released him on amnesty. Neverovsky’s lawyer said he would appeal the sentence.
