A career diplomat who was most recently Israel’s ambassador to Austria took up his post as the Jewish state’s envoy to Russia. Before it was filled by Natan Meron, the position remained vacant for more than a year, which led to accusations in the Israeli media and the Knesset of negligence and inactivity in the Foreign Ministry. Officials reacted by saying it was difficult to find the right person for the job.
