Romanians voted in a run-off presidential election that pitted former communist Ion Iliescu against right- wing extremist Corneliu Vadim Tudor. Prior to the vote, the Romanian Jewish Federation issued a statement saying Tudor had been “a staunch enemy of the Jews” in Romania for many years and had repeatedly displayed anti-Semitism and xenophobia.
