An American Jewish author won a Pulitzer Prize for his novel about a teen-ager who escapes from Czechoslovakia on the eve of World War II. In Michael Chabon’s “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay,” Joe Kavalier makes it big in the U.S. comic book business before the events of the Holocaust catch up with him.
