A group of fervently Orthodox rabbis in Israel banned cell phones in the yeshivas under their control, according to the Israeli daily Ha’aretz. The rabbis claimed that the ringing phones disturb Torah learning and “contradict the essence of the yeshiva” by allowing students unfettered access to the outside world.
