A New York rabbi was sentenced to five years’ probation and a $5,000 fine for selling marijuana he claims was for medical purposes. “I saw people who were dying of multiple sclerosis, AIDS, cancer,” Rabbi Yitzchak Fried previously told the Village Voice. “Being a rabbi, I had to deal with it, not put my head under a rug and ignore it.” The top professional at the Jewish Federation of Broward County, Fla., resigned to pursue other professional interests.
