U.S. officials watched Israel’s smallpox inoculation campaign before going ahead with plans of their own, an Israeli official said Thursday. In September, Israel began inoculating more than 15,000 health, military and rescue officials against the disease to prepare for the possibility that Iraq will attack with biological weapons in response to a U.S. strike on Baghdad.
