Michael Steinhardt called for free Jewish education for Diaspora Jews. In a landmark speech, the philanthropist laid down a gauntlet at the North American Jewish federation system’s General Assembly, saying he would donate $10 million if his gift is matched by at least $90 million from other sources. The fund would provide free early childhood education to Jewish children and would help Jewish children attend camps, day schools and college programs.
