A new tackle football league was established in Israel. In the presence of former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue; Robert Kraft, owner of
the New England Patriots; and members of the Combined Jewish Federation of Greater Boston, American
Football in Israel President Steve
Leibowitz announced Thursday the formation of the Israel Football League. Play will commence with four teams this fall.”I think it’s just a very
positive sign about the game, and about international interest in the game,”
Tagliabue said. “But mostly it’s about kids – kids having the chance to play a
game that they haven’t played before. And once they participate, and once they
see how much fun it can be and how competitive it is, and what kind of self-esteem you can get when you succeed, it just catches on real fast.”
