The former chairman of the Republican National Committee was appointed to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council. President Bush appointed Ken Mehlman, who is Jewish, to serve through 2011. The council guides the direction of the Holocaust museum on the national Mall.Mehlman served as RNC chairman from 2005 until this year. Reportedly he left in part because of his unhappiness with the party over its failure to respond to his outreach efforts to minorities.
