Israel will begin dismantling some West Bank checkpoints and roadblocks next week, the Palestinian Authority president told Palestinians on Tuesday.
Speaking to Voice of Palestine radio the day after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in Jericho, Mahmoud Abbas told Palestinians their daily lives soon will improve. Abbas also said that expanded cooperation between the Palestinian Authority and Israel will expedite talks aimed at establishing a Palestinian state.
“We can evaluate the results after two more meetings,” Abbas said.
Olmert and Abbas are due to hold a Washington summit with U.S. President George W. Bush in November.
