Israel’s defense minister slammed the 12 IDF soldiers who refused to carry out orders to evacuate Jewish settlers from a Hebron building.
“Refusal, no matter what side it comes from, has no place in our army,” Ehud Barak said. “In the State of Israel there is one army, where orders are issued by platoon, company and battalion commanders – no one else,” he said.
Several rabbis had urged the soldiers to refuse to participate in the evacuation operation in the West Bank city.
The 12 soldiers were court-marshaled Monday evening and sentenced to 28 days in jail. The army said the soldiers will not return to serve in combat units.
