An American organization of Holocaust survivors is backing Israeli survivors seeking improved benefits from the Israeli government.

In a statement, The American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Their Descendants wrote that it “supports the Israeli Holocaust survivors in their attempt to get a measure of justice so that the impoverished survivors can live out their lives in dignity. It is our hope that the Israeli government will provide them with complete cooperation and help them meet their needs.”

Israeli Holocaust survivors have protested the government’s plan to provide an allowance that would start at about $20 a month and increase incrementally. Representatives of survivors’ groups and the government have been negotiating a new amount for the stipend.
