The Central Council of Jews in Germany will present its highest prize to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The annual Leo Baeck Prize will be presented on Nov. 6, according to an announcement on Friday by the Central Council, which represents the 120,000 members of the German Jewish community.

According to the statement, Merkel is to be honored for her commitment to good relations between Jews and non-Jews in Germany, for her support for Israel, and for her engagement on behalf of Germany’s growing Jewish population.

“The chancellor has demonstrated many times in the past that she stands at Israel’s side even in politically difficult situations,” the statement said.
