Top Syrian and North Korean officials met in North Korea.

The meeting in Pyongyang Friday between top officials of each nation’s ruling socialist party came two weeks after Israeli planes struck a target in Syria. North Korea’s news agency said only that the sides discussed bilateral issues.

According to media reports, the target Israel hit involved nuclear material and/or know-how shipped from North Korea to Syria. North Korea, one of the very few countries that condemned the attack, is known to have previously supplied Syria with long-range missiles.

According to the Washington Post on Friday, Israel shared intelligence about the target with the United States before carrying out the attack. Israeli and U.S. officials have refused comment on the attack, although President Bush on Thursday generally warned the Koreans not to export their material or know-how.
