Barnes & Noble launches online Jewish book club


Book-selling giant Barnes & Noble has launched a Jewish-themed online book club.

The club is run in partnership with Nextbook, which promotes Jewish cultural literacy through It marks the first time Barnes & Noble is working with a Jewish organization to develop content for one of its online book clubs.

Located at, the new site offers moderated discussions of Nextbook’s Jewish Encounters series of books about significant Jewish figures and historical themes.

The first selection was former U.S. poet laureate Robert Pinsky’s “The Life of David,” a portrait of the biblical king of Israel. Pinsky is taking part in the online discussions.

The club is also currently featuring “Marc Chagall” by Jonathan Wilson, which will be followed by “Betraying Spinoza” by Rebecca Goldstein in November and “Maimonides” by Sherwin B. Nuland in December.

The Nextbook Jewish Encounters series is edited by Jonathan Rosen and published in cooperation with Schocken Books.
