Jewish human rights activist Felice Gaer was re-elected to the United Nations Committee Against Torture.
The 10-member committee is comprised of experts that advise nations on implementing the Geneva Conventions.
Gaer during her eight years on the committee has served as a vice chairman, and she is currently also the vice chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom. She was re-elected to her post Oct. 8.
Gaer also currently serves as the director of the Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights, a research and advocacy group overseen by the American Jewish Committee. She is a frequent lecturer and the author of more than 25 articles on human rights, and has petitioned war crimes tribunals to effectively prosecute crimes against women.
