Rallies to promote a two-state solution will take place outside of Israel and the West Bank.
Despite the cancellation of the main gatherings in Jericho and Tel Aviv scheduled for Thursday, which were to feature Canadian rock star Bryan Adams, supporters of a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict will hold planned rallies in other countries.
The OneVoice movement, founded in 2002 by Mexican-Jewish entrepreneur Daniel Lubetzky, says it has garnered nearly 600,000 signatures – about half Israelis and half Palestinians – urging Palestinian and Israeli leaders to launch negotiations for a two-state solution.
The Jericho and Tel Aviv rallies were to have been the focal point of the Oct. 18 international day of support, but the Jericho rally was indefinitely postponed after radical Palestinian groups threatened attacks. The Tel Aviv rally was canceled in solidarity.
Ancillary rallies will go ahead in Washington, D.C., Boston and Irvine, Calif.; in Ottawa and Calgary, Canada; and in Aberdeen, Scotland.
