Coleman backs Rudy

Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) endorsed Rudy Giuliani for president.

Coleman, who is one of two Jewish Republicans in the U.S. Senate, told the Associated Press that he backed the former New York mayor and Republican frontrunner because they shared a past as moderate Republican mayors. Prior to joining the Senate, was mayor of St. Paul, Minn.

“The shared vision as mayor of getting things done, tied in with his strong stance on security, Rudy gets that,” Coleman said.

The endorsement is significant because Minneapolis is hosting the 2008 Republican convention. Coleman also faces a tough reelection bid next year, likely against Al Franken, the Jewish talk comedian and Minnesota resident.
