Jerusalem terror plot said foiled

Israeli authorities said they foiled a Palestinian plot to carry out several terrorist attacks in Jerusalem.

The Shin Bet announced Sunday that it had arrested three Palestinians from east Jerusalem on charges of forming a terrorist cell linked to Islamic Jihad.

According to the Shin Bet, the suspects planned to assassinate Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski, shoot Israeli guards near a disputed renovation site the in the Old City and carry out a suicide bombing in the capital.

An indictment was served over the weekend in Jerusalem District Court. It was not immediately clear how the defendants would plead to the charges.
