Serbian organizers cancelled a rock concert at a former Nazi concentration camp.
The British band Kosheen was to perform Saturday at Smajiste in Belgrade, where 48,000 Jews, Serbs and gypsies were murdered by the Nazis during World War II.
Pressure from “foreign and domestic media” was cited as the reason for the cancellation of the concert by the firm Long Play.
On Friday, the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Efraim Zuroff said the planned concert was “a heartless insult to the memory of the victims of the Nazis.”
The Smajiste site has long been neglected. Serbia’s Jewish community of some 8,000 has called for its preservation.
