Israel’s immigration and absorption minister could be prosecuted on graft charges.
Police said Wednesday that there was evidence Yaacov Edri tried to secure illicit favors while in his previous government position of deputy internal security minister.
Edri is suspected of offering to help arrange a promotion for a senior police officer in exchange for perks from one of the officer’s friends, a political activist. The alleged deal never went forward.
Edri denied wrongdoing and pledged to step down if he is indicted. The police findings have been passed to Israel’s attorney general, who must decide whether to order a trial.
