The American Jewish World Service is planning to lobby in Washington to remove restrictions from AIDS assistance.

President Bush is seeking reauthorization of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief; it comes up for consideration on Feb. 7 by the U.S. House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee.

Many AIDS activists praise Bush for authoring the expansive act but object to some provisions that are serve the interests of conservative Christian groups.

American Jewish World Service activists will lobby Congress on Feb. 4 to remove restrictions on funding groups that advocate for legalized prostitution and will argue for decreasing funding for abstinence education overseas. A group of cross-denominational rabbinical students who recently toured Ghana with the Jewish group will lobby Congress later in February.
