Ariel Sharon’s son Omri began serving a seven-month prison term for elections fraud.

Omri Sharon, a former Likud lawmaker, was taken to Maasiyahu Prison in Ramle on Wednesday after losing an appeal of his conviction for violating party election laws.

Sharon was found guilty of illicitly funding his father’s successful 1999 run to lead the Likud. Ariel Sharon later went on to become Israel’s prime minister, with Omri serving as his closest adviser.

Prison authorities said Omri Sharon would win no special favors behind bars. He will share his cell and will have to request special furloughs to visit his father, who is in a coma after suffering a stroke in 2006.
