The Claims Conference responded to a critical documentary that aired in Israel this week.

On Thursday, the conference released a 27-page rebuttal to “Morals of Restitution,” which aired the previous night on the eve of Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The document contains detailed responses to the claims made in the film.

“The movie ‘Morals of Restitution’ is a totally one-sided sensationalist litany of attacks and criticism of the Claims Conference and of organizations and individuals that are part of the restitution process,” the conference said. “It is riddled with inaccuracies and distortions. It is fueled by a small band of disgruntled parties who are motivated by self-interests.”

Among other things, the film asserts that the conference is holding $1 billion in restituted funds, while needy survivors go unaided. The conference says that figure is simply wrong – it possesses only $318 million in liquid assets, and has pledged to disburse an even greater amount over the next three years.
