Jordan resumed talks with Hamas.

Jordan’s government on Wednesday confirmed talks between Lt. Gen. Mohammad Dahabi, its intelligence chief, and officials of the terrorist group now controlling the Gaza Strip. The Jordan Times quoted Jordanian officials as saying the talks were “security related” and that the meetings would continue “to achieve positive results.”

Jordan expelled Hamas officials in 1999, in part because they continued to plot terrorist attacks against Israel. Relations ended in 2006 after Jordanian authorities caught Hamas operatives smuggling in arms from Syria.

Jordan and Israel signed a peace treaty in 1994.
