Settlers clashed with Israeli police and activists seeking to protect Palestinians harvesting olives.

Rabbis for Human Rights joined Israeli police and army troops in an effort Friday to keep settlers from driving Palestinians away from olive groves near Hebron at the launch of the olive harvest.

Settlers rushed the activists and the troops, according to media reports, and in some cases threw stones at police.

In recent years, such clashes have become a feature of the harvest, with settlers claiming that the Palestinians harvesting near their homes pose a security risk and Palestinians accusing settlers of seeking to encroach on their land.
