The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum will project portraits of survivors on its exterior walls as part of a slide show throughout Washington.
Museums in Washington will project the images this week and next as part of the inaugural “FotoWeek DC†promoting the photographic arts.
The images of 63 survivors, to be projected from dusk to 10 p.m. Nov. 14-16, also commemorates the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the November 1938 pogroms in Germany that portended the Final Solution.
“Now, 70 years later, we memorialize the victims by superimposing images of survivors on the Museum to remind us of their singular determination not to let the world forget nor repeat what happened to them,” museum director Sara Bloomfield said in a statement.
Other museums participating in FotoWeek include the Museum of the American Indian, the Newseum, the Corcoran Gallery, the American Art Museum and the Museum of American History.
“This is a powerful and unique project where architecture, photography and light combine to create a new medium,†FotoWeek said in a statement.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
