Israel blasts British plan to label West Bank products

Plans by Britain to label products from the West Bank are reportedly causing tensions with Israel.

Ha’aretz reported on Friday that top Israeli officials have in recent weeks made overtures to Britain to cancel the plan, which they equate to a boycott, and that it will be a topic of discussion when Foreign Minister David Miliband visits the region next week.

"This initiative is a serious and substantial problem in relations between the two countries, and is generating a sense of crisis," Ha’aretz quoted a senior Israeli diplomat as saying.

Britain says the plan to separately label products manufactured in the West Bank from those manufactured in Israel meets a requirement of Britain’s trade agreements.
