JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Ehud Barak met secretly with Jordan’s King Abdullah in Amman, an Israeli daily is reporting.
The king asked the leaders during the Tuesday night meeting not to launch a military operation in Gaza, which he said could hurt Jordan as well, Yediot Acharanot reported on Thursday.
Olmert and Barak reportedly told Abdullah that Israel would respond if the rocket attacks on southern Israel continue, the newspaper reported.
Meanwhile, the London-based Arabic Al-Hayat newspaper reported that during the meeting, the leaders discussed recent negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians and that Abdullah stressed the importance of working toward a two-state solution.
Al-Hayat also reported that the two sides agreed that the new United States administration should play an important role in the peace process.
