BUDAPEST (JTA) — Hundreds of pro-Israel demonstrators rallied in front of the Israeli Embassy in Budapest.

The demonstrators, from Jewish and Christian religious organizations, gathered in frigid weather to express their solidarity with the Jewish state in its military operation in the Gaza Strip.

"Israel has the right to defend herself," read one banner.

Hungarian television interviewed the demonstrators at the rally, then interspersed the footage with images of Gaza Palestinian suffering.

The demonstrators criticized the media, which they said is biased toward the Arabs.

"There was never a Palestinian state, and Israel left Gaza, therefore the Palestinians have to blame themselves for the situation," one demonstrator told a TV reporter.

Another demonstrator complained that his son and his family, who live in southern Israel, suffer daily from Hamas rocket attacks.

At the end of the rally, a solidarity letter was given to a representative of the Israeli Embassy.
