JERUSALEM (JTA) — An Israeli supermarket chain agreed to purchase a canned foods factory and keep its doors open.
Hatzi Hinam’s purchase of the debt-ridden Vita Pri Hagalil processed food and vegetable factory in Hatzor Hagalil will save the jobs of hundreds of factory workers that live in Israel’s North, as well as add 100 people to the employee roster.
The action came as the Comverse Technology company announced it would cut its international staff by 15 percent. More than half of the company’s staff is in Israel.
