WASHINGTON (JTA) — Hillary Rodham Clinton said Iran could be invited to an international conference on Afghanistan.
Speaking March 5 in Brussels, the U.S. secretary of state proposed a United Nations meeting on the future of Afghanistan that would include "key regional and strategic countries," according to media reports. Iran would be part of the gathering because it borders Afghanistan.
The Obama administration has expressed a willingness to engage the Islamic republic; the U.N. conference could provide an opportunity for such a diplomatic overture.
