(JTA) — Israel warned Israeli businessmen in Europe to return home because of the threat of a terrorist attack by Hezbollah.
Israel’s government has general knowledge of plans by the Lebanese terrorist group to avenge the assassination last year of its operations leader, Imad Mughniyeh, Ha’aretz reported. Israel has not acknowledged any role in that killing, which took place in Syria; some outside experts have suggested the Syrian government could have been responsible for the assassination, given frustration in recent years with its inability to control Hezbollah.
Since the Mughniyeh assassination, Israel has helped prevent Hezbollah attacks on Israeli targets in Canada, on an embassy in central Asia and on Israeli businessmen in Africa, according to the Ha’aretz report.
