Just scanned Dan Brown’s ejewishphilanthropy.com and found some good news bits. Brown re-ran some press releases and posted some intersting links over the past week or so:
- Hebrew University received a $50 million grant from the Edmund Safra foundation to study the brain. It is the largest gift an Israeli research institution has ever received, according to The Associated Press
- The Jewish Foundation of Los Angeles will give $1 million over several years to develop Virtual Jewish LA, a website that will feature Jewish programs and institutions in the Los Angeles area and will help Jews find inroads into the Jewish community.
- The Avi Chai Foundation will award $540,000 in grants over several years to a dozen or so Jewish day schools that are working with each other to find cost-saving partnerships. You can read more about it on the foundation’s blog dedicated to the project. I might unpack this a bit more later.
- The Jewish Agency for Israel is reaching out to federations to recruit young leadership to take part in its board of governors meetings in Israel in October, and is trying to create a JAFI Global Forum for Emerging Leaders.
- The Joint is recruiting Latin American Jews to participate in the General Assembly of the United Jewish Communities.
- And he linked to this Op-ed in the Nonprofit Times by Steve Nasitir, the CEO of the JUF-Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago.
