JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Schechter Rabbinical Seminary in Jerusalem appointed two new deans.
Rabbi Moshe Silberschein will serve as the dean of the seminary and Rabbi Tamar Elad-Appelbaum as the associate dean.
The International Board of the Schechter Rabbinical Seminary selected the two new deans at its June meeting in Jerusalem. The search attracted applicants from Israel and abroad.
Rabbi Einat Ramon, the current dean, will return to research and teaching at Schechter.
Silberschein, a Jewish scholar and veteran faculty member and lecturer in rabbinics at the Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem, received his ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1981. A year later he made aliyah, and since then he has worked extensively in the field of Jewish education in Israel and abroad.
Elad-Appelbaum received her ordination from the Schechter Rabbinical Seminary in 2005. She directed the Makhillim program to train Masorti community professionals in Israel and the Marriage Project of the Masorti movement’s Bureau of Religious Affairs.
Elad-Appelbaum will serve Temple Israel Center in White Plains, N.Y., as its assistant rabbi for a year and assume her Schechter position in 2010.
