JERUSALEM (JTA) — A test of Israel’s Arrow missile defense system was aborted at a United States missile testing range near California.
The test early Thursday morning is the fourth to be canceled in the last week due to technical problems, according to reports.
The system did track a missile dropped from a U.S. military plane and exchanged data on the target with the U.S. missile defense system during the test, according to a Pentagon statement, Reuters reported. But the Arrow Interceptor was not launched due to communication problems between the control room and the missile launcher, located on an island hundreds of miles away.
It is hoped that the new system will protect Israel from Iranian attacks, including missiles with nuclear warheads.
