WASHINGTON (JTA) — Shimon Peres will meet with Russian President Dimitry Medvedev to discuss Iran policy and other issues.
The Israeli president leaves Tuesday for Sochi, a Black Sea resort and the site of the Russian president’s summer palace.
"The two Presidents will hold a working meeting during which they will discuss the strengthening of the strategic relations between Israel and Russia, Russia’s involvement in promoting regional peace, the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, and the Iranian nuclear issue," said a statement from Peres’ office.
Israel and the United States are pressing Russia to join sanctions aimed at stymieing Iran’s suspected nuclear weapons program that may be introduced before year’s end.
